        I  was introduced into the world of purebred dogs when I joined the Vancouver Junior Kennel Club  in 1979.    My first Doberman, a red male from Freespirits Reg’d  Dobermans, was my junior handling and obedience partner.

        Fast forward to the early 1990's when another male came along.  Saxon was my constant companion and owner handled to all titles and awards, he became MBIS, BISS Am. Can. Int'l Ch. Freespirits Just One Look and  No. 3 Doberman in Canada during a limited Special's career.   

        After being a passionate fancier of this breed for so many years, the natural progression was to take on the challenge of breeding quality Dobermans of our own.  

         BISS Ch. Freespirits Charismatic CD, a half-sister to Saxon, joined our family shortly thereafter.  Affectionately known as Bailey,  she truly is a “gift to humanity”, a great ambassador and a rock solid foundation.  At 12 years of age she continues to enjoy her daily outings at the beach where she entertains her many fans with her repertoire of tricks. 

        Our registered kennel name is from the combination of our astrological signs CAPRI-corn and GEM-ini and in 2001 the first litter to carry the CAPRIGEM name was born.

        From this first litter,  three were shown and each completed their Canadian Championship with Group placements from the classes.  One went on to become our first breeder/owner handled American Champion while another, shown only once in the US (because we were showing her sister) as a puppy, is a Specialty Grand Prize Sweepstakes Winner.   Both, are now proven producers of quality as well.

        In the following generation arrived Best Puppy in Show,  Best of Breed and Group placing champions and a few that are now coming of age have also been awarded in the US show rings which include the DPCA Nationals in 2006 and 2007.  

        We are humbled by these honourable awards.

        Other Caprigem dogs are wonderful companions for their owners, have achieved top marks in obedience and are now rocketing through agility courses in pursuit of performance titles.

       

         We strive to continue breeding ‘Standard’, healthy and long-lived Dobermans that are structurally and mentally sound through purposeful selection and critical analysis of each health-tested breeding pair.

        With an illustrious past bestowed upon us, our obligation is to do justice to what came before and we look forward, enthusiastically, to future generations.
